What it can do for the Thoroughbred Breeder
|
Mare Matching is another facet of the professional racing service offered by
www.justracing.com.au and is based on
high performance pedigree matching. This system is based on the science of genetics as
used by the great SENATORE FEDERICO TESIO and later on by all those who were able to
unravel the secrets of this very complicated interplay of genes.
The sole geneticist employed to do the mare matching for clients is Gunter Prischl who turns 60-year-old in 2006. Gunter has been retired from the workforce since age 48 and has done mare matching as a free service for a few friends, before he was urged to do it commercially to assist in the expansion of his long-term friend Phil Purser’s justracing website.
Starting in 1986, Gunter spent a decade studying thoroughbred genetics in Brisbane under the tutorage of the late Jack Greathead, a man who was respected in the racing and breeding communities of both Australia and New Zealand. A confidant to champion trainers like Tommy Smith and Bart Cummings, Jack Greathead would give Smith and Cummings his opinion on the best genetically matched up Lots at each yearling sale conducted throughout Australia and New Zealand in any given year. He would also - with historically proven accuracy - advise them what he felt should be the eventual optimum distance each suggested Lot would be capable of performing at, as a mature and seasoned racehorse.
Whilst the saying that there are no guarantees in life except death and taxes is true, it is a recognised fact of life – even from sceptics – that certain thoroughbred lines “nick” with other lines and certain “nicks” are best avoided, or the result can be ill-tempered 600-metre flying machines, which are ultimately proven useless as racetrack performers.
It must be also remembered that even if the optimum genetic matching has occurred, that other factors such as the rearing and the training of the youngster will also ultimately have either a positive or a negative effect on the racetrack performance and prizemoney earnings of a particular individual equine athlete.
To allow you, the breeder, to take advantage of this very specialized knowledge, we have managed to engage the services of this geneticist. He promises to do his best with every pedigree match he performances. Barring unforeseen circumstances such as foal accidents, each foal should surpass the performances of its dam - quite often by a significant margin. Where a dam was stakes placed - a stakes winner should be the result. Mares, which have not been raced, can produce outstanding foals by the correct stallions. THE CORRECT STALLION IS THE ONE, WHICH IS GENETICALLY COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR MARE - NOT NECESSARILY ONE WHICH IS IN FASHION. To allow you to have some input on the final decision - every mare will be matched with three stallions and a six generation pedigree for each potential foal will be supplied.
Having your mare matched correctly - before the actual mating takes place - will save you time, money and heartbreak in the long run.
Our fees are deliberately kept to a minimum, to allow any small breeder to take advantage of this service and possibly save thousands of dollars in stud fees. Additionally overheads can be kept to a minimum as www.marematching.com.au is just one facet of Australia's largest privately owned website - www.justracing.com.au - so all the infrastructure (except the geneticist) is already in place.
Whilst it is anticipated that any matching recommended by us should result in a foal capable of maximising it's race track financial returns, many other variables (excluding correct pedigree matching) must also come into the overall equation.
Special requests can be catered for.
- Fees start at $270 per mare (3 stallion matches).
